Bill Bryson on the Human Body

Event date: 12-03-2020
Best-selling author Bill Bryson will give a public lecture on March 12th, 2020 in the Princess Máxima Center.
Best known for his lively travel books and his best-selling ‘A short history of nearly everything’, Bill Bryson took on a new challenge. He went to explore the human body, resulting in ‘The Body; A Guide for Occupants’, which has been released this fall.  “We spend our whole lives in one body and yet most of us have practically no idea how it works and what goes on inside it”, Bryson said. “The idea is simply to try to understand the extraordinary contraption that is us.”

As part of his explorative adventure, Bryson visited the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology – because sometimes it goes horribly wrong in those bodies of ours. “Visiting the Princess Máxima Center was one of the most enjoyable and inspiring experiences I had in researching my new book. I don't know a more wonderful hospital anywhere”, Bryson said.

And now he is back in Utrecht to share his knowledge on ‘this wobble of  flesh we exist in and often take for granted’.
