Alexander Eggermont wins German Cancer Aid Award

Prof. dr. Alexander Eggermont, CSO of the Princess Máxima Center, received the German Cancer Aid Award 2019. On February 4th, 2020, the high-ranking award was presented to him at a ceremony in the Old Town Hall in Bonn, Germany.

Prof. dr. Alexander Eggermont is honored for his pioneering commitment to the sustainable improvement of interdisciplinary oncological care structures and the initiation of oncological centers in Germany. As a surgeon, scientist and director Eggermont is specialized in melanoma and soft tissue sarcoma, immunotherapy as well as drug development. With over 900 publications in journals and books, he proves to be a highly active scientist.

“Alexander Eggermont is an internationally recognized pioneer of modern oncology who has earned great merits not only in Germany, but worldwide. The German Cancer Aid Award 2019 is a wonderful award for his phenomenal contributions,” said Prof. dr. Otmar D. Wiestler, President of the Helmholtz Association in Berlin, in his laudation to the award winner.

With this prize the Cancer Aid Foundation wants to award outstanding doctors and scientists in the field of oncology and appreciate those who have been crucial in improving the care of people with cancer. With this, the foundation honors the last wish of Dr. Wilhelm Hoffman. Eggermont is the first non-German recipient of the award.
