Prinses Máxima Centrum

Argentine foundation donates art to the Princess Máxima Center

Art is important to our center. Parents and children find distraction, comfort, connection and reflection in it. For this reason, the Máxima Center has been collaborating with the Art@Hospital foundation from Argentina for several months. The foundation donates works of art to hospitals. On September 29, the Princess Máxima Center received as the first hospital in Europe 40 works of art. A delegation of Art@hospital flew over from Argentina for the official handover.

The day was officially opened by Gita Gallé, member of the board of directors, and Gisella du Mée, founder of the foundation. Gita Gallé: 'We are very grateful for this donation and this beautiful collaboration. Today we celebrate the value of art, but also the connection between Argentina and the Netherlands.

The donation consists of a diverse collection of paintings by well-known and lesser-known artists. Gisella du Mée: Some artists are world famous, others made a painting for the first time. And that doesn't matter, because it all comes from the heart. All the paintings are made with love, and that's what makes Art@Hospital so special.' From now on, the collection will be on display at the LATER clinic and in meeting rooms A1, 1B1 and 1D.

The story behind the foundation

Art@Hospital honors the last wish of Portugal's Pedro Oliveira, who suffered from the most aggressive form of leukemia. It took only five days from initial diagnosis to his death, he was 31 years old.

Pedro had a desire to bring art to his room in the hospital: he was convinced that with patience and courage he could beat his illness, and he wanted color and beauty to surround him. Pedro was the son-in-law of Gisella du Mée. She established this foundation to honor Pedro's wish. You can read more on the Art@Hospital website.
