Vaccination against corona and flu for children with cancer

Children who have (had) cancer are also eligible for a flu vaccination through their general practitioner. New research shows that the flu shot allows children to build effective protection against the flu virus.

The Máxima Center recommends one vaccination for all children, unless the pediatric oncologist recommends two because of reduced resistance during treatment. General practitioners usually give two vaccinations to children younger than 9 years old, but can suffice with one according to the Máxima policy. Children who are admitted to the Máxima Center for a long period of time can even get the flu shot on the spot.

There must be a minimum of 48 hours between a flu shot and appointment for a procedure under sedation at the Máxima Center.

Corona vaccination

To qualify for a (repeat) corona vaccination, children with cancer can -on presentation of a letter from their primary care physician- go to the GGD for a (repeat) corona vaccination. This applies to children 12 years and older who have low resistance as a result of cancer treatment. Younger children cannot yet get a repeat vaccination. As of October 24, a letter is no longer necessary and all children 12 years and older can get a corona vaccination.

Corona rules

We will keep the following rules at the Máxima Center: no shaking hands, sneezing and coughing into your elbow, regular hand hygiene. In some areas of care, Máxima-employees wear mouth nose masks: In the parent/child rooms and when patient contact is less than 1.5 meters. Got a cold? As a staff member or parent, wear a facemask if you have a cold.

Do you have an appointment with your child or are you coming to the Máxima Center as a visitor and do you have (mild) symptoms? Please do a self-test before leaving home and do not come to the Máxima Center if you have tested positive. We want to prevent infection with the coronavirus!
