Annual report 2025: integration, innovation and internalization

In 2025, colleagues across the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology continued working on the implementation of our 2024-2028 multi-year strategy ‘Moving forward together’. Important steps were taken within all three main themes – innovation, organization and collaboration. Always with one shared goal in mind: our mission to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life. 

In 2025, we reached several milestones that truly make a difference in the lives of children with cancer. For example, the pharmacy completed the renovation of its back office, creating a modern and efficient working environment with sufficient space for clinical drug research and a 3D printer. In addition, colleagues in care introduced light therapy for children receiving high-risk chemotherapy. The therapy reduces the severity, duration and pain of oral mucositis (inflammation of the oral mucosa).

In total, we recorded more than 22,000 outpatient visits, nearly 8,000 day treatments, and a patient satisfaction score of 8.9. 

In research, the number of staff and research groups continued to grow, driven by a combination of clinical and fundamental research. 

Within research, the number of staff continued to grow, and the number of research groups increased from 43 to 50 with the addition of a combination of groups focused on both clinical and fundamental research.
