Parent–child room
You can move the furniture around if you like.
You can write or draw on the whiteboard, or hang things on it. You can also hang cards or decorations on the hooks on the wall. Under the couch, there are storage bins for toys and clothes.
Daily schedule
In the morning, you talk with your parent and the nurse about what your day will look like. For example, when you get chemo or other medicines, when you can leave your room, when the doctor or child life specialist will visit, or when you will have visitors.
Call system
You can call the nurse by briefly pressing the red cross on the call system.
Television
You can turn the TV any way you like. Want to play games? You can connect your own game console to the Máxima Center network. There is also a TV in the parent’s room.
Balcony
Your room has a balcony, so you can sit outside. Try to keep the balcony door closed as much as possible so it stays cool inside. Also stay on your own side of the balcony, so you do not bother other children.
Staying overnight
Two people are allowed to stay overnight. This can also be your brother or sister, or a friend. If your guest is younger than 12, an adult must stay too.
Visitors
You can have visitors all day, which is nice. Talk with your parent and the nurse about what times work best for you.
Leaving your room
Most of the time, you do not have to stay in your room, even if you have an IV. It is actually good to get up and do something. There is a lot to discover in and around the Máxima Center. Just check with the nurse first if it is okay.
