Frequently asked questions about medication

You can ask a question through the patient portal by sending an e-consult to the pharmacy or your nurse specialist.

Reliable information about your child’s medicines can be found on the medication cards in the diary planner and on our website. You can also visit www.apotheek.nl.

Some medicines are not covered by the basic health insurance package. These include paracetamol 1000 mg (not applicable for children) and calcium/vitamin D tablets. Because these tablets are important for some children, the Princess Máxima Center covers the cost of calcium/vitamin D.

Please note: at your local pharmacy you will have to pay for these tablets yourself. Be sure to order a repeat prescription in time, so you can collect the tablets during your visit to the Máxima Center.

You can request repeat prescriptions no later than 4 working days before your visit to the pharmacy.

This can be arranged through an e-consult in the patient portal. Select the Máxima Center pharmacy (apotheek Máxima) as the recipient.

If you do not have access to the patient portal, you can email your request to apotheek@prinsesmaximacentrum.nl.
Please include:

• your child’s name and date of birth

• the medicines you are requesting

• the date of your appointment

You can return old medicines to the pharmacy. We will make sure they are safely disposed of.

If your child vomited 30 minutes or more after taking a tablet or capsule, don’t worry, you don’t need to give the medicine again. For liquid medicines, you never need to give a second dose.

If your child vomits within 30 minutes after taking a tablet or capsule, check the vomit. Do you see a whole tablet or capsule? Then give the medicine again. Again, for liquid medicines, you never need to give a second dose.

If your child vomits more than once after taking the same medicine, or if you are unsure, contact your nurse specialist.

To treat your child properly, the doctor needs a complete overview of all medicines your child uses — including those you buy yourself. That’s why it’s important to give each pharmacy permission to share your child’s medication data. You can do this via www.ikgeeftoestemming.nl or directly at your pharmacy.

Via www.ikgeeftoestemming.nl, you can digitally share your child’s medication data with the GP, pharmacy, and healthcare center. Please arrange this as soon as possible, so the doctors and pharmacists at the Princess Máxima Center also have the most up-to-date information.

The information in MijnMáxima comes from the Princess Máxima Center’s electronic patient record. This record is only accessible to healthcare professionals directly involved in your child’s treatment.

Some medicines cannot be taken abroad without permission. This applies to medicines such as strong painkillers, sleeping pills, and sedatives. These medicines fall under the Opium Act. In many countries they are considered banned substances, even when prescribed by a physician. This is why it is important to check whether you need a certificate, and if so, which one. On the CAK website you can use the ‘Medicines when traveling’ tool. It will give you personalized advice.

Do you need a certificate? Then fill it in and send it to the CAK. You can do this in two ways:

• digital upload

If you upload the certificate digitally, you will receive a reply by email within five working days.
If you send it by post, you will receive a reply by mail within two weeks.
