(Pediatric) physical therapy close to home
Pediatric oncology treatment
During the phase in which a child is still receiving treatment at the Princess Máxima Center, you as a physical therapist can provide care in the weeks when the child and parents are at home. During the weeks when a child is admitted to the Máxima Center, chemotherapy and or radiation therapy may be given. The side effects of these treatments can affect your physical therapy care close to home.
Children or adults who had cancer during childhood may also come to you after completion of pediatric oncology treatment with questions related to physical functioning. From five years after diagnosis, they can attend follow-up visits at the Máxima Center at the LATER clinic, where any late effects are identified. These late effects may be the reason for a physical therapy referral to your practice.
By completing our e-learning, you will learn more about (pediatric) physical therapy during the different phases of childhood cancer.
