Dr. Akke Bakker is a technical physician specializing in oncological care, bridging the gap between medical and technical expertise. Her focus is on the clinical implementation and application of MR-guided focused ultrasound-mediated blood-brain barrier disruption (MRgFUS-BBBD). She is involved in several national and international clinical trials investigating the safety and efficacy of MRgFUS-BBBD to enhance drug delivery in patients with brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases, across both pediatric and adult populations. She is BIG-registered, holds BROK certification, and has treated cancer patients with hyperthermia. Her experience also includes conducting high-altitude research on Mount Everest, reflecting a broad scientific curiosity and commitment to pushing the boundaries of medicine. Akke earned her PhD with a focus on improving superficial hyperthermia for cancer treatment, titled "Improving Superficial Hyperthermia Treatment: Temperature Matters."
