SIOP, the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, is a global organization whose mission—cure for more, care for all—aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Princess Máxima Center and the work of Máxima International, the department dedicated to global health.
Each year, around 3,000 pediatric oncology professionals gather at the SIOP congress, including pediatric oncologists, surgeons, nurses, psychologists, and researchers. They come together to share the latest insights, present their research, and build international networks. Global patient and parent advocacy groups are also represented.
The conference program offers a rich mix of keynote lectures, symposia, oral presentations, and poster sessions. In addition, there will be ample opportunities for participants from around the world to network and explore new collaborations.
Key upcoming dates for SIOP 2025:
- July 23, 2025 – Early registration deadline
- August 19, 2025 – Late-breaking abstract submission deadline
- October 20–23, 2025 – SIOP 2025 Congress in Amsterdam
For the Princess Máxima Center, hosting SIOP is a unique opportunity to showcase the center on the global stage. ‘Internationalization is a key priority for the Máxima,’ says Gertjan Kaspers, Director of Máxima International. ‘As host of SIOP, we see a wonderful opportunity to bring the global pediatric oncology community together in the Netherlands and introduce them to our center.’
During SIOP 2025, two prominent leaders from the Máxima will officially step into new international roles:
- Dr. Rob Pieters, Chief Máxima International, will be installed as President of SIOP
- Dr. Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink, pediatric oncologist and research group leader at the Máxima, will become Chair of the SIOP Scientific Committee
Because all forms of childhood cancer are rare, international collaboration is essential. High-quality research often requires large patient cohorts, and clinical care and training benefit from broad experience. By sharing knowledge globally, we accelerate innovation, improve care, and increase survival rates for children with cancer—everywhere. The SIOP Congress is a powerful catalyst in this mission.
