Rob Pieters to be president of SIOP

The members of SIOP, International Society of Paediatric Oncology, elected Prof. Dr. Rob Pieters, CMO of the Princess Máxima Center, as president. Prof. Dr. Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink, pediatric oncologist and group leader at the Máxima was simultaneously elected as SIOP's scientific committee chair.
The tenure of Rob Pieters and Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink will begin after the SIOP Congress next October, which will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. Rob Pieters will serve as "president-elect" for one year alongside current SIOP president Guillermo Chantada. Starting with the next SIOP 2025 annual conference in Amsterdam, Rob Pieters will hold the position as SIOP president for three years.

Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink will chair the Scientific Committee from October 2025. Starting in October 2024, she will serve as chair-elect for one year April on the scientific committee and in October 2025 will serve this role for three years.

Rob Pieters: 'The Máxima and SIOP share the same mission, to cure every child with cancer with optimal quality of life. I see it as a special privilege to become president of SIOP, because in this way I hope to contribute even more to better care and research for children with cancer worldwide.'

Marry van den Heuvel-Eibrink on her nomination: 'What an honor to be nominated by a former SIOP president. Very nice to be able to contribute worldwide to improve survival of children with cancer with optimal quality of (over-)life, by stimulating new developments in basic and translational research. Am proud to be able to do this from the Máxima.'
